Henry Edward John Stanley, 3rd Baron Stanley of Alderley, was born on July 11, 1827. He was a British diplomat who served in the foreign service, including posts in Athens, Constantinople, and Tehran. He converted to Islam in 1869, showing a deep interest in Eastern cultures and becoming known for his opposition to British foreign policy in the Ottoman Empire. He died on December 10, 1903.
