Isabel Allende

Isabel Allende is a Chilean-American writer born in Peru in 1942. She is one of the most widely read Spanish-language authors in the world. Her work often incorporates elements of magical realism and focuses on strong female characters, as well as themes of politics, exile, and love. Some of her best-known novels include The House of the Spirits, Of Love and Shadows, Eva Luna, and Paula. She has received numerous awards and honors for her contribution to literature, including Chile's National Prize for Literature in 2010 and the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2014.
