Jaime Balmes (Vich, Catalonia, 1810 - 1848) was a Spanish philosopher, theologian, sociologist, and politician. Ordained a priest, he was one of the most influential figures in 19th-century Spanish conservative thought. His work encompassed common sense philosophy, Catholic apologetics, and social and political analysis. Among his most well-known works are "Protestantism and Catholicism Compared in their Relations with European Civilization" and "Fundamental Philosophy."
