Jaime Vicens Vives

Jaime Vicens Vives (1910-1960) was a Spanish historian, professor, and editor. He was born in Gerona and earned a doctorate in History from the University of Barcelona. His work focused on the economic and social history of Spain, especially modern and contemporary Catalonia, as well as the 15th century. He introduced the French Annales historiography to Spain and was a key figure in the renewal of Spanish historiography in the 20th century. Among his most notable works are "Noticias de Cataluña" (1954), "Manual de historia económica de España" (1957), and "Historia social y económica de España y América" (1957-1959). He founded and directed the Vicens Vives publishing house.
