James Alexander Wickersham was an American author known for his work The City of the Caesars: A Story of Isbister and the Empire. He was born in Springfield, Illinois, in 1845. He served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. After the war, he dedicated himself to law and literature. His most notable novel, published in 1910, explores themes of history and adventure in the context of an alternative Roman empire. He passed away in 1928.
