James Stormonth was a Scottish philologist and lexicographer, mainly known for his work "Etymological and Pronouncing Dictionary of the English Language". He was born in 1824 and died in 1882. He was a teacher and studied classical and modern languages. His dictionary was published posthumously in 1884 and was noted for its etymological approach and its pronunciation system.
