Amelia Ann Blanford Edwards (1831-1892) was an English novelist, journalist, traveler, and Egyptologist. She published extensively from her adolescence, including successful novels such as "Barbara's History". After a trip to Egypt in 1873-74, she dedicated her life to Egyptology. Her book "A Thousand Miles Up the Nile" (1877) documented her experiences. She co-founded the Egypt Exploration Fund (later Egypt Exploration Society) in 1882, a key organization for supporting archaeological excavations in Egypt, and gave numerous lectures to promote the discipline.
