John Greenleaf Whittier

John Greenleaf Whittier (1807-1892) was an American Quaker poet and abolitionist. He was a prominent figure among the Fireside Poets, known for their narrative poems and for depicting rural New England life. His writings often reflected his religious convictions and his strong opposition to slavery. Among his most celebrated works are "Snow-Bound: A Winter Idyl" and "The Barefoot Boy."
