José Antonio Barrenechea

José Antonio Barrenechea y Morales (Lima, 1821 - La Paz, 1888) was a Peruvian lawyer, diplomat, politician, journalist, and orator. He stood out as a liberal, polemicist, and an influential figure in 19th-century Peruvian politics. He was a deputy, a member of the National Convention of 1855-1857 which promulgated the liberal Constitution of 1856, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Justice on various occasions. He was also director of the newspaper El Comercio and founded El Perú. He represented the country as a diplomat in Chile and Bolivia. His work includes political speeches and essays.
