José de Vicente y Caravantes (1827-1878) was a Spanish writer, journalist, and lawyer born in Madrid. A prominent figure in 19th-century literature and journalism, he collaborated on numerous newspapers and magazines, often under the pseudonym "El Bachiller de la Alameda". He was a prolific author of novels, short stories, plays, and essays, many of them with a distinct costumbrista style that depicted the customs of his era. He was also a member of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation.
