José Toribio Medina Zavala (1852-1930) was a Chilean historian, bibliographer, biographer, diplomat, intellectual, and scholar, considered one of the most important figures in Hispanic American historiography. His monumental work encompasses the colonial history of Chile and America, standing out for his exhaustive bibliographic work, the cataloging of documents, and the editing of historical texts. He was a member of numerous academies and scientific societies, and his work remains a fundamental reference for the study of the colonial past.
