Jacques Anatole François Thibault (Paris, 1844 - Tourraine, 1924), known as Anatole France, was a French writer. A novelist, poet, and critic, he was noted for his elegant style, irony, and skepticism. He was a member of the French Academy from 1896 and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1921. His works often satirized French society and its institutions. Among his best-known works are "The Crime of Sylvestre Bonnard," "Penguin Island," and "The Revolt of the Angels."
