Juan Alfonso Carrizo was an Argentine folklorist, essayist, ethnographer, and priest. He was born in San Antonio de Areco, Buenos Aires province, on September 11, 1885, and died in La Rioja on March 14, 1957. He is known for his extensive work in compiling folk songs, coplas, proverbs, stories, and popular traditions from various regions of Argentina, especially the Northwest. His works, such as "Cancionero popular de La Rioja" and "Cancionero popular de Salta," are fundamental for the study of Argentine folklore. He also worked as a teacher and museum director.
