Julio Escobar (1918-1996) was a Peruvian writer, essayist, literary critic, and journalist, a member of the Generation of '50. He was born in Jauja and was noted for his intellectual acuteness and his commitment to culture. He was a university professor and director of cultural publications. Among his works are essays such as "Poesía y tiempo", "La literatura peruana en el siglo XX" and "El cuento peruano".
