Julio Ramón Ribeyro (1929-1994) was a Peruvian writer, recognized as one of the masters of the 20th-century Latin American short story. He was born in Lima and studied Literature and Law. His work, characterized by a concise style and keen social observation, explores themes such as frustration, loneliness, failure, and alienation in Lima's urban life, especially in the marginal neighborhoods and the middle class. His most famous collection of short stories is "La palabra del mudo". He also ventured into novel writing, essays, and theater. He spent a large part of his life in Europe, mainly in Paris.
