Synopsis

The memoirs I present transcend mere biographical chronology to offer a careful selection of personal experiences. These are not limited to my individual existence but project towards a broader social interest, enriched with reflections that seek to illuminate not only my own challenges but also the problems shared by my generation. I believe my stories provide a valuable perspective on the vicissitudes of an individual immersed in the oppression and lack of freedom of a dictatorship, a reality that I consider essential for new generations, born and raised in democracy, to understand the other side of history. This will allow them to ponder and properly value the democracy in which they live. To establish this contrast effectively, I firmly believe that the testimony of an ordinary citizen is as relevant as the memoirs of frontline protagonists. There is a saturation of autobiographies of prominent political figures, while narratives of citizens who experience politics from the grassroots, entangled in its dynamics without escape, and who sometimes contribute more to society than the acclaimed political architects from the top, are scarce. Why should the experiences of media personalities be widely known and not those of individuals who share the same vital stage? Do not these latter suffer the consequences of the decisions and actions of the former? Do they not face the same circumstances that life brings us? Who can claim the exclusive right to narrate their own memoirs? My life has been, and continues to be, the simple existence of an ordinary citizen, as indicated by the title of this book. In my journey as a citizen, I have lived numerous episodes in which I have felt part of what I call "the small big politics." This concept, which titles my latest episode, refers to the politics practiced by those who, without the umbrella or protection of political parties, maintain a genuine concern for public affairs and act accordingly, thus avoiding the conditionings and dependencies inherent to partisan formations. Ramón Soriano is an emeritus Professor of Philosophy of Law and Political Philosophy at Pablo de Olavide University, distinguished with the Medal of Merit from said university.
