Sinopsis

The monumental Mole Vanvitelliana, a magnificent pentagonal structure majestically situated within the historic harbor of Ancona, a prominent Adriatic city, provides the spectacular and architecturally resonant setting for a truly groundbreaking exhibition dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci. This unique presentation marks the very first time that Leonardo's significant, though often underappreciated, presence in Urbino and Pesaro in 1502 is thoroughly investigated. During this pivotal period, he served Cesare Borgia as a military architect and general engineer, contributing extensively to fortifications and cartographic projects. The exhibition meticulously reconstructs this specific chapter of his life, placing it within its rich historical and cultural context. This comprehensive approach illuminates every aspect of Leonardo's multifaceted genius, encompassing his unparalleled artistic creations, his pioneering scientific investigations, his innovative technological designs, and the profound philosophical outlook that underpinned all his endeavors during his engagement with Borgia. To support this narrative, the exhibition brings together a collection of rarely seen materials, including original drawings, engineering plans, and historical documents. These invaluable artifacts are meticulously documented and presented within a comprehensive, fully illustrated catalogue. Furthermore, these materials and the specific historical context are discussed in exhaustive detail by a panel of seven internationally renowned scholars. Their diverse expertise, carefully coordinated by the editor, offers multi-faceted insights and fresh interpretations into Leonardo's contributions as an architect and engineer under Cesare Borgia, and the broader implications of his work.
