Synopsis

Jackdaws by Ken Follett is an irresistible and profoundly engaging novel, immersing readers in the intense drama of the French Resistance during the Second World War. It's a powerful narrative intertwining themes of enduring love, extraordinary courage, and the deep-seated pursuit of revenge amidst the harsh realities of wartime. Two weeks prior to the monumental D-Day landings, the French Resistance launched a critical operation to destroy a telephone exchange, a vital nexus for Nazi communications across occupied France. The objective, however, was heavily fortified, leading to a disastrous and devastating failure for the Resistance forces. In the wake of this setback and with the Allied invasion imminent, the resourceful British secret agent, Flick Clairet, devises a daring yet extremely perilous new strategy. She proposes assembling and leading an elite, all-female team—dubbed 'the Jackdaws'—whose mission it would be to covertly infiltrate and incapacitate the crucial exchange before the main Allied forces commence their landing in France. Unbeknownst to Flick and her team, Field Marshal Rommel has entrusted his most brilliant and relentless spy-catcher, Dieter Franck, with the express command to systematically crush the French Resistance. With Franck’s ruthless efficiency, he is meticulously closing in on their network, transforming the Jackdaws' audacious mission into a desperate and high-stakes race against time.
