Synopsis

The Pillars of the Earth stands as Ken Follett's undisputed masterpiece, offering an exceptional and vivid evocation of an era marked by violent passions, intrigues, and the constant pulse of human survival. This commemorative edition, celebrating the 25th anniversary of its publication, enriches the reading experience with an exclusive author's prologue, where he shares reflections on its creation. Through its pages, the great master of action and suspense narrative immerses the reader in a fascinating and turbulent world of the Middle Ages. It is an epic canvas populated by majestic kings and noble ladies, brave knights and struggling peasants, all framed by feudal conflicts, imposing castles, and vibrant walled cities. In this masterful tapestry, love and death intertwine with vibrant intensity, shaping individual and collective destinies. The heart of this colossal narrative is the ambitious and monumental construction of a Gothic cathedral, a symbol of faith, progress, and conflict that structures the lives of its protagonists. The story, vast in scope and profound in resonance, begins with the dramatic public hanging of an innocent man and culminates with the significant humiliation of a king, marking a cycle of justice, power, and redemption. Critics have unanimously praised the work. El Mundo calls it "Fantastic from all points of view." ABC acknowledges that "The Pillars of the Earth was a milestone in Spain, where it is still the most read book in history according to the Federation of Publishers' Guild." Qué leer highlights that "High politics and low passions (and vice versa) make up a large-scale serial that confirms Follett as the master watchmaker of the bestseller kingdom." Chicago Tribune describes it as "Marvelous... It will grab you, fascinate you, and envelop you." ABC Sevilla emphasizes that "The Pillars of the Earth made Ken Follett one of the most beloved authors in our country." Great figures praise it: Donald Sutherland states that "Ken Follett knows how to weave a fascinating story, with complex characters that every actor dreams of playing." Ildefonso Falcones comments that he loves it, remembers it fondly, and that "it is one of those titles that stick with you..." Ridley Scott points out that "In The Pillars of the Earth, Ken Follett introduces us to characters who make history come alive." Readers also share their enthusiasm, describing it as "My favorite book," "fascinating," "a book that is, without a doubt, among my favorites," "Great work!" and "A fantastic, unforgettable story."
